In October Drive Fitness member Beth Burgess and her sister Brooke will be walking 60km over two days in the Walk to End Women’s Cancer. This is the first time the walk has been held in Australia and is in support of Queensland Institute of Medical Research (QIMR) and Royal Brisbane Women’s Hospital (RBWH). A BIG thank you to Beth for sharing some of her story & information about the walk below.

Beth said this is a charity close to my heart having gone through cancer last year but is sure so many other people can associate with this cause.

“Our walk will be in honour of those lives lost to cancer, celebrate the lives saved and in hope the excellent services provided by the RBWH and groundbreaking, critical cancer research at QIMR can continue, Beth said.

“Everyone can relate to this cause because women’s cancers continue to become more and more prevalent in society, most people know someone close who has past, been through or continue to battle these cancers, in fact 1 in 3 women are diagnosed every year,

“On a positive note diagnosis and treatment of women’s cancers has improved so much that there is now a 61% survival rate,

“I was treated at the RBWH and have since joined a research study with the QIMR into young women with cancer in hope that treatments can continue to improve.

“Drive Fitness and Tim have been an awesome support.  Being fit, strong and positive were all key factors to my recovery.    I really looked forward to getting back into training after treatment and slowly but surely I have regained my prior fitness and weight which was important for me to demonstrate I was ‘well’ again.

“I thank Drive Fitness for your ongoing support and your kind sponsorship.

“Now who’s up for a 60km training walk? Anyone? ”

We would like to wish Beth & Brooke all the best with the 60km!
