I joined Drive Fitness in August 2017, after signing up for the 21-Day Jump Start Special. I remember feeling nervous walking into the Jindalee studio and seeing Mike for the first time.  I had not exercised, not one single day, since having my daughter 6 years earlier and I was self-conscious about my body and my ability but Mike put me at ease and simply asked me what my goals were.  I told him that I wanted to lose about 5 kilos as well as prioritise my health and fitness because between studying 60 hours per week for my PhD and being a partner and a Mum I was only getting 5 hours of sleep at night and seemingly had no room for exercise.  However, I wanted balance, I wanted to feel good about myself and I knew that I needed help getting there.

My first training session was a PT with Mike.  I was so unbelievably unfit that I could barely do 1 push-up, but Mike was still so encouraging.  I remember apologising to Mike for not having a ‘winning attitude’, because every exercise seemed like a chore and I’d groan about it.  At the end I was tired but stoked that I finished the session. And initially that’s how I trained, just one session at a time.

Never did I think that just 7 short months later that I could win the 10-week transformation challenge.  Not only have I surpassed my original goal and lost 6.3 kilos (8.4% body fat) but I can now run 5km, do 15 consecutive push-ups and I can even do 2 chin-ups unassisted! I’ve become more aware of my body (of what it can and can’t do and how it moves), learned about nutrition and the importance of a good night’s sleep.  But I have also gained a whole new group of friends who challenge and encourage me every step of the way.
