The First Ever Drive Fitness Event: The 2008 Bench Press Challenge - The Road to 20 Years
Not long after starting Drive Fitness in 2007 we began thinking about ways to bring our clients together outside of their regular training sessions. At the time we had fewer than 20 clients, but we were enthusiastic about building a community centred around health, fitness and supporting each other.
With many of our clients training for strength we came up with the idea of a friendly strength based competition that everyone of all fitness levels and training experience could participate in. All participants would have three attempts to lift their heaviest one rep bench press with their best successful lift divided by their body weight to achieve their score.
In 2008 the Drive Fitness Bench Press Challenge was launched!
We're incredibly grateful to the 11 clients who participated in our first ever event. Your enthusiasm, trust and willingness to get involved laid the foundation for the incredible community and traditions we've built over the past two decades.
When we first planned the Bench Press Challenge we thought it would simply be a one-off. Instead it has become the only Drive Fitness event to be held every year since its inception. Next year will be the 20th Drive Fitness Bench Press Challenge - something we never would have expected back in 2008.
Looking back we're incredibly grateful for our small but supportive client base in 2008. Without you, none of this would have been possible.
Drive Fitness is on the road to 20 years!
As we approach this milestone, we'll be taking a look back at some of the moments we've shared with our community that paved the way and shaped who we are today.

Tough Mudder 2013 - The Road To 20 Years
The inaugural Tough Mudder QLD event took place in August 2013 on the Sunshine Coast and the Drive Fitness team was there! This was our first ever obstacle course together - but it wouldn't be our last!

in July 2016, during the 2nd Annual 4 Week Workout Series we introduced a one-off format change that remains a one-and-only in Drive Fitness history, an unexpected 5th workout final.
